The world's first lion cubs born through artificial insemination,
Victor and Isabel, play under a tree at the Ukutula private game
conservation centre, northwest of the South African capital Pretoria -
They are a product of the successful pregnancy conceived via
non-surgical artificial insemination of a lioness with freshly harvested
semen from a male lion. Scientists hope that the technique could be
applied elsewhere to save endangered wild felines globally.

The Submarine Museum, in Gosport,
Hampshire hosted the Subaquatic Steampunk Weekend, continuing. Around
1000 people of all ages tuned up each day, dressed in various home-made
Steampunk costumes and enjoyed the various acts and musicians which
included Biscuithead and the Biscuit Badgers,ÊIchabod Steam and Victor
and the Bully. Visitors also had a look round HMS Holland and HMS
Alliance.

Knavesmire in York last night as ten air balloons performed a
spectacular fire glow under a barrage of fireworks during the three-day
York Balloon Fiesta. The tethered balloons were blasted with propane gas
illuminating the surrounding spectators during a weekend in which
scores of balloons will fly across the historic city, night fire glows
and fireworks.
